Review of Bama Girl Blues by Gracen Miller

It was supposed to be one night of passion…
Winston “Keys” Cornell is the guitarist for Hot Wired, the hottest band around. With hard work and dedication his band has become a household name. He’s no stranger to a high profile life. Being the heir to a New York fortune meant he was nurtured beneath the scrutiny of the public eye. The paparazzi have been kind, dubbing him the gentleman rocker, a man that plucks the heart strings of women everywhere.
…an agreement between friends, nothing more.
Nessa Hayes is a woman on a mission. She’s outspoken, foul-mouthed, and has her life mapped out. Determined no one will sidetrack her dreams, she’s surprised by her attraction to her childhood friend, Keys. Engaging in an affair with no-strings seemed like a great idea at the time, but falling in love might be the least of her heartache.
But scandals never sleep and…
When their different worlds collide, can they overcome their diversity for a chance at romance? Or will they be broken hearted, left to sing a sad and lonely tune?
…this one might leave Keys singing the Bama Girl Blues!

My Review

It doesn't really matter what genre the book is, if the author is Gracen Miller, you know you'll get swept up in the story. Bama Girl Blues was no exception. Having read the first two books of the Hot Wired series, I was already familiar with Keys and I was very excited to read his book. I wasn't disappointed.

Gracen Miller once again does a fantastic job up getting you into the characters' lives. You see what they see, you think what they think, you feel what they feel. And wow, did I ever feel! This book was a roller coaster of emotion.

I'm not big on going into details of the books I review, so I'll leave you with this: if you're looking for a story that will have you on the edge of your seat and neglecting the house work because you can't stop turning the pages then this is the book for you.

Excerpt:
Keys could pick his nose and I’d think it’s hot.
What’d that say about Nessa when Keys looked like he was one twitch away from going into a full-blown seizure? At least that’s what his version of dancing resembled. So clearly her nose-picking logic made the most sense.
Nessa tried not to gawk, but good lawd, she couldn’t have turned away from watching a train wreck either. An apt description of Keys’ so-called moves.
Train wreck. Poor guy.
His personality and looks made up for this shortcoming, but still… poor guy.
Fang and Derr made him look worse with their rhythmic steps. Even Fallon was better, and she came across as a little stiff. Jase acted the fool, throwing out seventies style strut, a little Footloose panache, and inserted some crazy foot-moves flair she’d only ever seen performed on reruns of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Needless to say those moves had no business ever being performed in public. His over-the-top dance style not only worked for him, but also was fun and demonstrated his zest for life. Despite Jase’s zaniness he still outshined Keys, which was more of a rocking back and forth on his feet and a little hip thrust that was so stiff she cringed each time he executed it.
“Sad, huh?” Her best friend, Samantha—Sam to her friends—said from beside her where they waited at the bar for the next round of drinks.
Tonight was Fang and Sam’s bachelor/bachelorette party and Fang had rented out the nightclub, Double Shots, where apparently Fang—not Heath—had kissed Sam the first time. Sam swore the two personas of Fang’s personality kissed differently. Personally, Nessa couldn’t care less about the details because the idea of Fang’s kisses resulted in bile churning at the back of her throat. Yuck! But her bestie was the happiest she’d seen her since before her parents’ deaths.
“He’s so hawt and then he does that.” Nessa flicked her fingers in Keys’ direction, while shaking her head in mild disgust.

The Wolf's Choice By Inge Saunders (Black Hills Wolves)

“I’ll pledge my loyalty to you through a blood oath, if you’ll support my choice of mate.”

Drew sank into his chair. “What does Rebecca have to say? The last time I spoke to her, she didn’t mention you.”

Blaine smiled. He hadn’t earned himself any favors. “She doesn’t know yet.”

Thirteen years ago Rebecca Ferguson died, at least to everyone in the Black Hills territory. With a human mother and unable to shift into a wolf, Magnum Tao, the deranged alpha of the Tao Pack would’ve had both her and her father killed for deceiving him. Magnum didn’t allow humans to mate with members of his pack.

Now Magnum is the one who’s dead and Rebecca can return.

But coming back from the dead, building a new life after her divorce and opening a library in town isn’t the only obstacles Rebecca faces. Elijah, her father, doesn’t approve of her being in Los Lobos to the point where he forbids her to get involved with the pack, especially the males.

Their relationship has suffered because of her absence and she hopes to bridge the divide; confident that she doesn’t want a romantic entanglement with anyone human or wolf, anyway.

In walks sexy private detective Blaine Walker.

Thirteen years ago Blaine stumbled on his mate at the local Swimming Hole. The next day, she was dead. Once he learns Rebecca is alive and living in Los Lobos, he decides it’s time to give up his career in Brooklyn and return to Black Hills. But he knows it won’t be easy to claim her since Elijah’s unnaturally overprotective. The only way Elijah will back off is to challenge him.

A challenge that will end in one of their deaths.

Rebecca can’t deny the old attraction she felt for Blaine is still there and even stronger now that they are grownup. She’s caught between the man fate has brought back to her and her father, whose affection she craved her whole life.

But there’s a life altering secret governing Elijah’s erratic behavior that can cost Rebecca everything she’s worked hard to build and everything she thought she could never have with a man or wolf.

Will Rebecca and Blaine beat the odds stacked against them?

Or will the choices they make ultimately lead them down a path both of them don’t want?

Excerpt:

“I’ll pledge my loyalty to you through a blood oath, if you’ll support my choice of mate.”

Drew’s eyebrows went up. Ryker, true to form, didn’t blink an eye.

“Why would you need my support?”

“It’s Rebecca Ferguson.”

Ryker straightened, taking on a solid stance next to Drew. The discussion wasn’t a threat to the alpha in any way.

“Her father won’t allow it.”

“I know.”

“He’s alpha of his household.”

“I know.”

“Are you going to challenge him?”

“If I have to.”

“And you want me to sanction it.”

“Yes.”

Drew sank into his chair. “What does Rebecca have to say? The last time I spoke to her, she didn’t mention you.”

Blaine smiled. He hadn’t earned himself any favors. “She doesn’t know yet.”

“You expect me to support your claim without her being aware of it?”

“You expect me to swear a blood oath to you without assurance whether or not you’ll turn into your father.”

The menacing growl from Ryker vibrated through the room.

“You’re playing a dangerous game, Blaine.”

“All of us have done it for our mates.” He stared from one to the other.

News traveled through the wolf-grapevine. Drew’d had to gain his mate, Betty’s, trust when he returned to Los Lobos after she believed the lies his father told about him. Ryker had overstepped their laws by mating a human, something the old alpha would’ve killed him for. But Drew didn’t seem to have a problem with humans becoming part of the Tao pack.

“Elijah isn’t going to hand over Rebecca to you. He went to extreme measures to keep her safe.” Drew sat forward again. “Even with the new order, he’s still protective of her.”

Blaine didn’t budge. He knew what he wanted. And he rarely lost.

About The Author

As a teenager, I would hide in my room to read my favorite romance novels when I was supposed to be doing my homework. I hope, these days, that my parents think it was worth it.

I am the mother of three adorable boys and I am fortunate to be married to my best friend. I live in Austin Texas where I am determined to eat all the barbecue in town.

I am in love with science fiction, fantasy, and the paranormal and try to use all of these elements in my writing. I've been told I'm a little bloodthirsty so I hope that when you read my work you'll enjoy the action packed ride that always ends in romance. I love to write series because I love to see characters develop over time and it always makes me happy to see my favorite characters make guest appearances in other books.

In my world anything is possible, anything can happen, and you should suspect that it will.
I'd love to hear from you!
Cheers!!

Three Things by Melissa Shirley

Three Things
By Melissa Shirley

Professional baseball player Ethan Remington—Remy to his friends—falls for Dr. Jillian Carter at first sight, but Jillian does things in her own time. It takes her a bit longer to realize this is a man worth hanging onto. And she does…for ten years, through the births of their daughters, through Ethan's career-ending accident, and through marriage counseling to deal with problems he isn't aware they have. A new job, though, sends Jillian on her way to another town, and when Ethan doesn’t follow, she lets the pain overcome the love she’s never forgotten. Ethan convinces Jillian to come home for a weekend where they face all their hurt, all their memories and a past that will either draw them back together or tear them apart for good.

Excerpt:

I didn’t care that the floor was dirty, that I could see my breath on the chilly attic air, that Remy hadn’t put on a shirt, or that I’d promised to make him coffee. I sat down Indian style and opened the cover. The spine was cracked, and the pages fluffed from pieces of fabric, tissue bits, wrapping paper, old CDs inside envelopes, and a thousand other things glued inside, but the book itself stood up against the years.

Smoothing my hand over the yellowed map of Gatlinburg, I smiled at the picture of a muddy boot print. I had a thousand other photos from that trip—our first as an adult married couple— in an album at home, but this print came from Remy’s size twelve when he’d run out of our cabin in the rain, wearing nothing but boxers and his boots, to get the suitcases we’d ignored in our hurry to find a bed. To him, it was a silly picture to hang onto, but to me, it was the perfect piece to remember a smile-worthy moment of the weekend we conceived Grace.

There were pages and pages of our history in this book, and I’d forgotten it existed until I woke up. A lump in my throat—maybe because I’d forgotten or maybe because I hadn’t—kept me from talking until we were downstairs on the sofa, looking through it together, something we’d never done.

I flipped the page to a picture of Remy’s hand wrapping his tie before a charity event we attended for the Children’s hospital where I was interviewing for a job. “What is this one?”

To his credit, he’d been perfectly attentive as we reminisced—for a guy like him who never sat still, this was quite a feat—and I leaned my head on his shoulder. “It was just for me.”

“Okay, but does it mean something?”

I picked up his wrist with one hand and set his palm flat against mine. “Yes.”

House of Glass by Lyn Forester

House of Glass
By Lynn Forrester
Poisoned House Book 1
Reverse Harem

After Caitlyn's life falls apart, can she trust her old racing competitors to help her build a new future? On a poisonous planet, humans and halions coexist in stacked city structures with only a high wall to push back the toxic jungle. But not all poison comes from outside. As an elite, Level 12 citizen and the daughter of a ruling family, Caitlyn has fought her entire life to not follow in her father’s footsteps. When her secret identity as Sparks, a low-level disc-bike racer, is discovered, her father ships her off to the Academia for Planetary Alliance to turn her into a proper politician. Determined to toe the line until she can escape, Caitlyn’s plans are once again thrown off balance when she meets her new classmates, Declan and twin brothers, Felix and Connor—three men who know her and are
determined to become a team.

Excerpt:

“Yeah, this year will be great!” a male voice shouts from behind me.

Startled, I twist around and slip. My heart thunders in my chest as my feet leave the ground. Free falling, I fling my arms out, desperate for something to anchor me.

“Whoa, there.” A warm arm encircles my waist, catches me against a warm chest. “Be careful. Those heels are dangerous.”

I glance up into golden-brown eyes, surrounded by a thick fringe of lashes. Heavy, dark brown eyebrows slant upward as his mouth curves into a grin. My pulse pounds harder, now that I'm safe.

“Thank you.” A blush stains my cheeks, and I curse the translucent skin that came with my red hair.

“That's some heartbeat you have there.” He sets me on my feet but keeps a hand on my back as if worried I'll fall again. The heat of his palm sinks through my light sweater, burning its way into my flesh.

“Thank you.” I shake myself and stammer, “For catching me. Falling hurts.”

“Yeah, I know the feeling.” His gravely voice rumbles inside his chest.

I frown, the sound pinging in my memory.

“Nice catch, dude,” the same guy from earlier calls. A shaggy, black haired head pops over my rescuer's shoulder. Grass-green eyes rake over me, a smirk twisting the corner of his mouth. “Seriously, nice catch.”

“Stop it, you'll creep her out.” Another guy appears, black hair combed away from his face. Through a pair of wire-rimmed glasses, his serious green eyes glance over me. Tall and slender, the white button down school shirt hugs his body to accentuate the narrowness of his hips. “Forgive my brother, he has no manners.”

As my eyes shift between the two brothers, the first one stands straighter, moving away from his brown-haired friend. He pushes the black hair back from his face and turns to him. “Trust me, she's not creeped out, bro.”

“More like creeped *on*.” His brother glances at him, and they have the same straight-nosed profile, the same jawline.

“Twins.” I look back at my rescuer.

His smile broadens, hand tightening on my waist. “Nice to finally see your face, Sparks.”
